What is Super Cruise?

Super Cruise is GM's hands-free driving system. It gives your new Chevy the capability to cruise the road with no assistance from you. Right now, you can travel across 750,000 miles on the highways across the U.S. and Canada, with the majority of those being in the Midwest-East regions of our nation. That means if you're looking to use your Super Cruise in Parsippany or a neighboring city, there's a good chance you'll have the freedom to cruise hands-free. Here's what this driver's assistance technology includes.

Lane Changing Capability

You won't have to crane your neck to check your blind spot or worry about looking in multiple places at once. You can change lanes safely and efficiently with Super Cruise. When traveling behind slower traffic on compatible roads, this system will engage your turn signal and wait for an opening to change lanes and/or pass.

Adaptive Cruise Control

Adaptive Cruise Control will manage your speed within the flow of traffic on compatible roads. While Adaptive Cruise Control is engaged, it will automatically adjust your Chevy to the flow of traffic. That means your Chevy will slow down when traffic slows down and get up to speed when the conditions call for it. Set your traveling pace and let your new Chevy take it from there.

Enhanced Navigation

Super Cruise will also include an enhanced navigation system. Through satellite communication and forward-thinking technology, you'll always know where Super Cruise-compatible roads are in Dover, NJ, and the surrounding areas. You can choose "Alternate Routes Overview" on your touchscreen. From there, all compatible roads on your route will be highlighted with a white line.

Super Cruise Trailering

Super Cruise will recognize when you're pulling a trailer and increase the space between you and the next vehicle in traffic. It's another layer of safety provided automatically with your new GM technology.

Unresponsive Driver Protection with OnStar

OnStar delivers valuable, life-saving technology through Super Cruise. If you become unresponsive behind the wheel in Montville or anywhere else in the nation, your vehicle will gently reduce speed until you reach a complete stop. From there, the system will initiate contact via OnStar, assess your situation, and send help if needed.

How to Initiate Super Cruise

As soon as your Chevy crosses onto a compatible road, the Super Cruise symbol will illuminate. To engage your smart technology, select the newly illuminated Super Cruise button on the steering wheel. Once the Super Cruise symbol and light bar turn green on the steering wheel, your system is engaged and you're ready to travel hands-free.

Driver's Attention System and Safety Prompts

It's important to remain attentive to the road while using Super Cruise technology. This technology is designed as a convenience tool, not one that can replace driving altogether. That said, the Driver Attention System will keep you focused on the road through a series of prompts:

  • Prompt 1: The light Bar on the steering wheel will flash green
  • Prompt 2: The light bar will flash red until you take hold of the steering wheel (chimes may sound, and Safety Alert Seat will vibrate.
  • Prompt 3: Vehicle's acceleration will disengage, but Adaptive Cruise Control will remain functional
  • Prompt 4: A voice will inform you to take control of the steering wheel. If you don't take immediate control, the system will slow the vehicle and bring it to a complete stop in the lane of travel. In addition, an emergency-Certified OnStar Advisor will call the vehicle to check on you.
